How Digital Banega India is changing the Face of the Country
An ambitious project called Digital Banega India (DBI) seeks to make India into a knowledge economy and a society that is empowered by technology. DBI, which was established by the Indian government in 2015, has made great progress since then in supporting innovation and entrepreneurship nationwide as well as increasing digital access and digital literacy. The Digital India initiative, one of the DBI's main pillars, aims to close the digital divide by giving all residents, particularly those in rural and remote areas, access to the internet. The government has put into effect a number of landmark programs under Digital India, including BharatNet, which intends to connect over 600,000 villages with high-speed broadband, and Common Service Centers, which offer a variety of digital services to citizens.
